How to answer this, or rather how to react to such a direct jibe?

So no-one can obey the 10 commandments?

I think you can

So God sees all human ways as filthy garments?

I do not think so, the bible does not give us such a bleak outlook. It can be only a very depressively repentant person who will make such an inane statement. Before I look at the commandments, let me just say to the author of the "filthy garments" statement; was not Christ also human? Did He not show us that even in humanity we can achieve a state of sinlessness. It is not our humanity which is offensive to God, but our lack of humanity. Our nature is not to harm, maim, kill, cheat, deceive, lie etc. these are attributes we have learnt to achieve our OWN ends. Some more so than others. It is a misconception to maintain that it is just as well to be hung for a sheep as for a lamb. We might fail, but every time we fail, we get up again and again.

The 10 commandments

  1. You will only worship one God
  2. You will keep the Sabbath holy
  3. You will honour your Parents
  4. You will not steal
  5. You will not kill
  6. You will not covet your neighbours goods
  7. You will not commit adultery
  8. You will not lie
  9. You will not bear false witness
  10. You will not take the Lord's name in vain

What is so difficult about this? If this is all God asks why is it that we attempt to make a mockery of Him? This list, these commandments are the very basis of common law, no society can function without these guidelines. So God instructs us to behave as caring nurturing honourable beings and we reject this, we laugh at this, who is the fool here? This is not just apathy, this is pathetic!
