Which of the three was indeed good?

They all were. However the third is most, because his mode of ethics is Utilitarian, that is to say he did good works because they were indeed good and held positive effects for not only himself, but for others as well. The other two’s mode of ethics is Ethical Egoism, meaning they did good works simply and solely to benefit themselves. Though all three did good deeds that benefit everyone, only the third did his good deeds for the sake of being good. The other two only did it to save themselves.
