Discussion 4 to the 2nd Commandment
Treat the verses as one

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.

My thoughts on this matter is that the Bible as interpreted by modern man has verse 4 and verse 5 separated as if they were two different commandments.  If God attended it to be read this way, and if “graven” means what it means today, then that means there were more than 10 commandments and we cannot have photos of our kids, not even to help find them if they were missing. 

If verse 4 and verse 5 were meant to be read as one, then the verses could mean Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth  AND  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, ...
