Back to the insanity

You might think that with time to reflect and think about what they say, the American opponents of same-sex marriage would start to comment on last month's DOMA decision more rationally. Perhaps, like Monsignor Charles Pope, accept reality. Of course you'd be wrong.

The top American working in the Vatican, Cardinal Raymond Burke, head of the Vatican's equivalent to a Supreme Court, Apostolic Signatura sagely weighed in on the matter:

"It will lead to death for individuals and eventually it will destroy our culture."

And the sky will fall too, I suppose.

Les Kinsolving, an Anglican minister and White House correspondent for World Net Daily suggested that the decision would lead to incestuous marriages and would allow necrophiliacs to marry well preserved corpses. Kinsolving did not mention incestuous necrophiliacs - probably an oversight.

So marriages will still be possible after the zombie apocalypse.

And we can always count on Mike Huckabee, since he's given up his presidential ambitions, to continue publicly following twisted logic down the slippery slope.

“If we’re determined to change the definition of marriage to accommodate how people feel and what they wish to do because of their mutual consent, then we should immediately release those incarcerated for practicing polygamy or bigamy. And, frankly, let’s make all consensual adult behaviors legal, whether prostitution, assisted suicide, or even drinking 16 ounce sodas in New York City.”

Of course by suggesting that the DOMA decision will lead to legalized polygamy and legalized prostitution, he's being critical. He's not in favour of either. But, as an ordained minister, he should be entirely aware that the Bible treats both polygamy and prostitutes favourably.

While not directly related to the US Supreme Court decision, Archbishop Oscar Cruz, judicial vicar of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines-National Appellate Matrimonial spoke out in favour of gays and lesbians marrying - each other. Apparently he feels that they have a responsibility to make babies and that totally outweighs their sexual preferences - or even if they like each other, let alone love each other.
