The Slingshot Model

Yet another model for the origin of our universe has been proposed[1] based on the collapse of an earlier universe. Christiani Germani of The International School of Advanced Studies in Trieste has suggested that a rotating universe in a 10-dimensional Calabi-Yau space could collapse, but then because of the spin, it would rebound before it was reduced to a singularity.[2]

This model eliminates the need for inflation in the first fraction of a second after the Big Bang.

Like the Big Crunch, this model is far from acceptance by the scientific community and requires a lot more work. But is consistent with observations of the universe and is consistent with an eternal universe, thus undermining the need for a deity. And it does eliminate inflation, which always struck me as a cosmic fudge factor.
