Inflationary Universe

I was under the impression that the current thinking is that the universe's expansion is accelerating and we are in an inflationary model. That's not to say there haven't been previous expansions and collapses (and consequent big bangs) - but surely if we are in an inflationary universe, there will be no more big bangs.

This could presuppose there were a large number of big bangs and once life HAD manifested itself (or God was certain He finally had the chemistry right at kick-off), He made it permanent by making it inflationary.

PS - I am not a Creationist or a proponent of ID. Devil's Advocate, perhaps - but we all know we can't prove his existence.
