The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Consider that the vast majority of the European Dark Ages is invisible archaeologically and historically, yet we assume that more people lived and worked and died in this time than we can account for.

A good rule of thumb for suppositions based on a lack of information is to reserve judgement indefinitely. That the bunnies exist is as baseless a statement as that they do not, if there is no information either way. Using phrases like "It is unlikely" is good but makes your argument seem weak to those who do not understand argument in general. Always state your assumptions and educated guesses as exactly that, rather than relying on probability to back you up.

You never know, the bunnies may come for you one day....
