First of all, the book suggests that the story of Jesus arose out of a melding of Judaism with the mystery religions then prevalent around the Mediteranean, not specifically out of the Roman pantheon. The greatest specific influence may have been the practice of the mysteries in Egypt, and secondarily the Greek version.

As to the relationship of the Old Testament to the Roman gods - I am not aware that there are any serious academic claim that the Roman beliefs grew out of the Old Testament or vice versa. If you want sources for the various myths in the Old Testament, then look to the east of what is today Israel and Palestine, not to the west of it. The "cradle of civilization" in the area we now call Iraq can just as legitimately be called "the cradle of religion."
